Sucess stories of Dr. Salma Khalfan Omar

YST 2014 Overall Winner, Dr Salma Khalfan Omar, began with her project "Changing Attitudes to Control Flies in Tanzania." Today, she serves as a General Practitioner at Jitimai District Hospital, Zanzibar, and is pursuing MMed Paediatrics & Child Health at Kairuki University School of Medicine, advancing child health through care and research. 


In 2014, Dr. Salma Khalfan Omar made her mark at the Young Scientists Tanzania exhibition, earning the prestigious Overall Winner title with her project, “Changing Attitudes to Control Flies in Tanzania.” This early success wasn't just an award; it showcased her innate passion for science, research, and public health, highlighting her determination to use innovative thinking to address critical community challenges.

Today, Dr. Salma serves as a dedicated General Practitioner at Jitimai District Hospital in Zanzibar, committed to delivering compassionate and quality healthcare to her patients. Her unwavering commitment extends further as she pursues a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Paediatrics and Child Health at Kairuki University, driven by a deep desire to improve child healthcare services across Tanzania.

Young Scientists Tanzania proved to be a pivotal launchpad in Dr. Salma's journey, equipping her with essential critical thinking, research, and presentation skills that have been invaluable throughout her medical studies and professional career. Through the invaluable Karimjee Foundation scholarship programme, she pursued and completed her Doctor of Medicine degree, an opportunity that profoundly shaped her path and strengthened her ability to serve others.
