Meet Baraka Ndakama Mswanzali And Andrea Lameck Samike from Nyangwe Secondary School, who are developing their project: "Development of an Eco-friendly Plant-based Bio-pesticide for Rice Pest Control".
This research investigates the development of an eco-friendly plant-based bio-pesticide using neem leaves, eucalyptus leaves, pawpaw leaves, and guava leaves to control rice pests. The study evaluates the effectiveness of the combined plant extracts in reducing pest damage, improving crop protection, and promoting sustainable agriculture. It also assesses their safety, affordability, environmental friendliness, local availability, and potential as a natural alternative to synthetic pesticides for rice farmers.
By combining scientific investigation with practical problem-solving, these students are demonstrating how innovative research can contribute to community well-being and sustainable development.
