THE YST WINNERS DELEGATION IN IRELAND- 5TH TO 10TH JAN 2016 YST- Educational Visit to Cork

The visit to cork included visiting the Tyndall Institute , meeting the Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork and Macroom

During this trip the winners had the opportunity to see the beautiful countryside of Ireland. Seeing the farms, animals and a beautiful Castle. They went into this castle, learnt the history of the same and also took a lot of photos.

The team was invited to the hi-tech Tyndall Institute where they had an opportunity to meet the scientists from the institute and students form a nearby school Grattan St School. Edwin and John gave an inspirational talk to the students from Grattan St School at the Tyndall Institute on their project on plastic bags and the effect on environment. They were exposed to the Research and innovation that takes place at the Tyndall Institute. The two boys also got a guided tour of the clean rooms and state of Art Research in Tyndall with Dr O Mahony. 

At the Tyndall Institute they were also presented with some solar equipments by the Solar Science to try at their school in Mzumbe , Morogoro. It was great to meet again and be inspired by Dr Lee Carroll , who was also one of the judges at the YST2015. 

The delegation was thereafter invited by the Lord Mayor of Cork. They were met by the Deputy Lord Mayor,Mick Nugent. This is where the team learnt about the history of Cork – current and past. The boys also experienced the nationals sports of Cork. The visit to the Lifetime Lab was a great thing to visit and big thanks to Eileen Crowley.

At Macroom the team was invited by Fritz Raake of Solar Energy System and the most exciting thing there was to learn about the enterprises and organisations working in macroom especially those working on recyclable byproduct, to reduce pollution and encourage recycling.
