Science for Development Outreach from Kilimanjaro Region

Young Scientists Tanzania is a unique and innovative programme in Africa, delivering two integrated and complimentary events in the Tanzanian secondary school academic year. The most important component is the comprehensive Science for Development Outreach Programme
covering all regions in Tanzania.

The National outreach programme is coordinated by the three YST science advisors, Dr Gozibert Kamugisha, Dr Brendan Doggett and Joseph Clowry. Each advisor coordinates 10 regions. The activities of YST in every region is further coordinated by a YST Regional Coordinator, who works with the Science Advisors. The Regional Coordinator works with a group of teachers in the region, known as the YST Regional Team.

The objective of this team is to drive and expand the project to grassroots level in each region. Phase 1 of the Science for Development Outreach Workshops are held in each region for teachers who want to learn about Science for Development, learn about methodologies to research projects and who want to participate at the annual exhibition, which showcases the work of the outreach programme.

In January 2020 YST held Phase 1 of the workshops in every region in Tanzania.
