Announcing Winners for YST 2014 at Diamond Juibilee Hall Dar es salaam, Vice President Dr Mohamed Gharib Bilal mentioned Dhariha Amour Ali and Salma Khalfan Omar from Lumumba Secondary School in Unguja (Zanzibar) as over all winners. Their project titled "Changing attitudes to control flies in Tanzania" combined excellent technical and scientific content while addressing the large local issue of flies which their islands experiences made Judges to give them high marks.
Before presenting the Awards, Vice President Dr Bilal said Science is an important discipline which when used properly can help to solve different problems in Tanzanian society.
“These Young scientists have put many efforts in researching and implementing their scientific projects. We commend them for their wonderful job.” Dr Bilal said. He also congratulated all Young Scientists who won the awards and urgue other students to concentrate in science studies to find solutions to different problems in Tanzania. For his part, Director for Young Scientists Tanzania Dr Gozbert Kamugisha said the competition is developing a much needed science culture in Tanzania.
